I am a ped PT working in early intervention. During the last year we have seen a major increase in torticollis referrals. Although I feel my treatment approach has produced positive results with regards to functional goals (ie: improved/normalized range of motion, resting postion, developmental progress, etc), I have not had much success with head shaping "issues". Does anyone have any thoughts/experiences/advice? I have not had a patient utilize a helmet, primarily because none of the docs in town have recommended one....any thoughts on them?

Kristen,
I've only known of one child who used a helmet for reshaping. His mom feels it has been beneficial. He was slightly older than what I think they would like for the child to be. There has been a discussion on the pediatric listserve of the APTA, and it seems several people are more familiar with this and have had promising results.
