I have some questions and I hope someone can help me. As a licensed PT I have a NPI # and a Medicare #. If I decide to open a pvt practice, do I need to get a new NPI # and Medicare # for the business. any info would be appreciated.

Definitely contact Medicare....but from my understanding, your Medicare and NPI have to be linked to your new business name. They will need information from the state and your business banking account to electronically transfer payments for services rendered.

I had to do this when I opened a new business. Even though I had an NPI and Medicare # from my old business. I had to submit applications to update the information. It took about 90 days all said and done. I was however able to see Medicare patients right away. And Medicare paid me for dates of service while the application was being processed (payment wasn't given until after the application process was completed).
