I work at a facility that is primarily a SNF longterm care, but recently one of our residents has had a massive stroke and been creeping his way out of a coma. This week he's finally waking up and starting to respond to therapy, but we've had to be extremely careful with skin breakdown in the bed. He has an air mattress that works well and we've started working on transfers out of bed, but the bed is too soft for EOB transfers! Because this is a small private facility and has never dealt with this sort of case, nursing is unaware of what kind of mattress to use. His mattress does blow up firmer, but this takes 4 hours! What do you recommend for both preventing skin breakdown, but also something that can dually work with his rehab transfers? Something firm enough to use for edge of bed sitting and sliding board xfers? Thanks!
