A very close friend of our family: 17, male, resulting from car accident; in coma since Jan 24, 2000; hospitalized still with colony of MRSA in trach; making very slow progress, but progress. We are looking for info regarding therapy protocol to retrain mouth and nose breathing(patient focuses on trach, blows the valve off when closed); also corraboration of therapy process as current therapists have limited experience with young coma patients; ideas for family to do to strengthen movement responses; links to others who are in similar situations or have been. Do we work on trunk out movement like an infant progresses or sensory motor type activities? Can anyone give us names of places in the country who specialize in therpay programs for coma recovery patients?
