Is this project for a stroke patient in general? Or for a patient who had a stroke some time ago? How long ago did they have the stroke? What are their functional limitations? If this patient has just had a CVA, putting them right on the swiss ball is probably not a good idea to start with. Start with bridging exercises, some core stabilization, then you can progess to guarded exercises on a swiss ball. More information on this patient would be nice.

Do a thorough lit search on Pubmed with 'swiss ball'. There appears to be evidence on these exercise improving trunk musculature activation, but I did not see any studies looking at efficacy with stroke patients. May be a good project for you and your colleagues to study. Pretty simple if you can find the subjects. Decide on inclusion/exclusion criteria (higher level patients), some objective tests for pre-post exercise regimen (Timed up and go, Tinetti, 6 minute walk test), then break the subjects into 2 groups...one does typical LE exercises for 4 weeks and the other incorporates swiss ball exercises. Compare the trwo groups. Here's one to get you started: Marshall PW, Murphy BA. Core stability exercises on and off a Swiss ball. Arch Phys Med Rehabil. 2005 Feb;86(2):242-9.
