SJbird5 and mcap, thanks very much for your speedy help with my search for Nack Pain Disability Index and Oswestry Low Back Pain Index. I'm dealing with a dentist, so I now find I need something similar to quantify "shoulder pain" which seems to involve the thoracic area. I haven't been able to find any published reference to such an instrument, but I'm posting to this forum in hopes that some of you may know of something I could use. Thanks very much,
Audreuy Macdonald

Dear SJBird5, Again thanks very much for your help - I'm probably going to go with the SPADI. While I was in the library for that, however, I came across thia in the latest issue of Spine (vol. 26, no. 1) in recent accessions:

Functional Rating Index. A New Valid and Reliable Instrument to Measure the Magnitude of Clinical Change in Spinal Conditions. Feise and Menke (both DC's). It's based upon the Neck Pain Disability Index and the Oswestry Low Back, but is not specific to any area of the spine. Some of the items are nicely worded. It can be administered and scored in 78 seconds! It's clearly not specific enough for research purposes, but might be of interest to someone in a very busy clinical setting. Just thought I'd pass it on.
