Hi. First time user here. I couldn't find a geriatrics forum, but many of my articles say this is a neurodegenerative condition.
I am a student doing research on the effects of diet and exercise on sarcopenia. Recently I came across two articles which concluded that muscle mass was not directly related to function/disiblity in the elderly. All previous studies I have seen have infered that a loss of muscle mass will effect funcion directly. I haven't been able to find an original article to prove a direct relationship. Here are my two articles. Has anyone seen any other articles that might help me?

Visser M, Newman AB, Nevitt MC, Kritchevsky SB, Stamm EB, Goodpaster BH, Harris TB. Reexamining the sarcopenia hypothesis. Muscle mass versus muscle strength. Health, Aging, and Body Composition Study Research Group. Ann N Y Acad Sci. 2000 May;904:456-61.

Visser M, Deeg DJ, Lips P, Harris TB, Bouter LM. Skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength in relation to lower-extremity performance in older men and women.
