there is a hearsay that just came out that people who are about to take the board exam and has recalled questions in their emails will not be allowed to sit for the boards... is this a statement from the fsbpt or just hearsay?? we have some recalled questions from a friend who took the exam but these are just from his memory of what came out from his exam..

Hello,
How did this come about. And how can anyone find out that questions were being sent via email to others. Its not like they asked FSBPT to answer them. Plus it doesn't make sense to me. The only thing I am aware of is that the format of the test will change in November and that was said by FSBPT themselves.

Hello,
Didn't know what to think when I first read this thread. So I decided to look at the FSBPT website and saw the following. Now it makes sense. For future license exam takers, take what you read from this very seriously. See below: This was taken from the FSBPT website at http://www.fsbpt.org/handbook/exam.htm

ABOUT THE EXAM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Protect Your Reputation and Your Career
Basic Exam Information

Passing the National Physical Therapist Examination (NPTE) is a big step toward receiving your license to practice Physical Therapy. Understandably, you want to take advantage of all available resources when preparing for this important examination.

In the past when you have prepared for examinations at school, you considered fellow students to be good resources for learning about questions that were on those tests.

This is not the case when preparing for the NPTE. It is illegal and unethical to recall (memorize) and share questions that are on the NPTE or to solicit questions that are on the NPTE from candidates who have taken the exam.

What Do You Mean It's Illegal to Recall Questions?

Each candidate who sits for the NPTE must accept the NPTE Security Agreement. The Security Agreement states that the NPTE and items contained therein are owned by the FSBPT and protected by Federal Copyright Law.

It also informs candidates that no part of the examination may be copied or reproduced in part or whole by any means whatsoever, including memorization.

Recalling questions from the examination and sharing them with anyone else violates both the Federal Copyright Law and the FSBPT Security Agreement that candidates must accept before taking the NPTE.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ITEMS FROM THE EXAM ARE NOT TO BE RECALLED FOR ANY PURPOSE.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it Unethical to Ask Someone Else for Recalled Questions?

Soliciting recalled questions from candidates who have previously taken the examination is unethical for several reasons. The first is obvious; you are expected to pass the test based on your own merit without assistance. The members of the public who will entrust you with their well-being expect that you are a trustworthy and competent individual.

Secondly, the purpose of the NPTE is to protect the public by ensuring that candidates for licensure have achieved entry-level competence. By asking previous test takers to share questions with you, you are undermining the very purpose of the examination.

Lastly, by soliciting questions from previous test takers who have accepted the FSBPT Security Agreement, you are encouraging candidates to commit illegal acts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ITEMS FROM THE EXAM ARE NOT TO BE SOLICITED FOR ANY PURPOSE.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Happens If I Do Share or Solicit Recalled Questions?

The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy has and will continue to actively prosecute individuals who violate the security agreement.
The Federation will also report any incidents of students requesting questions or sharing questions to their licensing jurisdiction.
Candidates who are prosecuted by the Federation or who are reported to a licensing jurisdiction for soliciting or sharing questions will severely damage their chances of ever being licensed in any jurisdiction.

I have been an examiner for the Canadian version of this exam (I also used to be a school teacher). I have to admit that the issue of making the "memorisation" and sharing of questions is a bit ridiculous: sharing information with other students is a big part of studying and learning. If the memorized question helps the candidate remember the information and prepare and answer the question, does this not constitute learning? Does the candidate not remember this even better than "notes"-info? And does this not provide the public with a "safe" PT? The questions will vary - at least in Canada - there are more than one set of questions/problems, that can be mixed. It is impossible to memorize the complete set! The onus is still on the candidate to learn and review ALL aspects of PT for the exam - a few questions will not remove that responsibility
