I am a physical therapist and a mother of a 9 year old cancer survivor. She had a soft tissue sarcoma surgically removed from her forearm along with much of her wrist extensor musculature 1 1/2 years ago followed by high dose internal radiation. She had full function of her wrist and hand following her treatment with some extensor lag of her middle finger. She gradually developed fibrosis of her extensor muscles as a late effect of her treatment. She recently presented with full A/PROM of wrist extension, radial/ulnar deviation, & pronation/supination but only ~ 5 degrees of wrist flexion. I discovered this after she complained of dorsal hand pain while writing. She has had a MRI and X-rays and there are no signs of tumor reoccurence or bone injury.

I have started treating her with massage, gentle joint mobs, contract/relax and have been trying to get creative with exercise in order to restore her motion (using physioball, paint brush,playing basketball, throwing a ball, sitting on hand).

I would be open to any suggestions on her treatment. I was able to get about 30 degrees of wrist flexion following the above program and want to prevent further function loss.
