What type of weightbearing protocols are most people using following meniscal repair - our orthos are 4-6 weeks NWB (with the usual ROM restrictions / progression) then precaution of no loaded pivoting for at least several more months.  As I know there are certainly more aggressive WB protocols (i.e. Wilk), wondering what the consensus is and what literature is out there to guide this..........
Thanks

Are there really that many meniscus repairs being done out there.  I see many menisectomies but it has been years since I have seen a repair.  As a PT, if I were given the choice, I would choose the former.  Much quicker recovery, and one can preach to me about the function of the meniscus all day, I will take the significantly quicker recovery.  I don't see major differences in the long run between the two procedures.

Kaden -
I've seen two in the last several months, and my question has some personal bias as well, as I need to to go in to have menisectomy / repair (and with question of ACL recon. as well) myself soon (putting it off as long as I can as I don't want to miss the golfing season here).  I was told ~50/50 repair vs menisectomy, and with our ortho's protocol there really would be no golf for 4-5 months.
I would agree about outcomes, haven't seen any research that indicates a huge difference, and it seems the failure rate for repairs is awfully high (I think the reason for our ortho's, who is VERY good, protocol).
Responses appreciated, input welcome.......
