Did anyone else get pissed off during the exam because many of the questions were not based on current best evidence for examination and interventions? I was in the exam room completely by myself and would start cursing at the computer every time I received a SI joint boney landmark palpation question. Total crap.

I personally utilized the currrent concepts in orthopaedics monographs from APTA along with David Boyce's Ortho Secrets. Reading current JOSPT or AJSM journals were not helpful for me because of my above complaint. Borrow a decent TMJ book, elbow/hand/wrist book, and a McKenzie Part A book. I personally took 3 days of my vacation and isolated myself in a study room. That seemed to pay pretty good dividends.

I am not sure what else to tell you other than that. In 2003 the exam questions did not seem to reflect current evidence in physical therapy practice. Ultrasound parameter questions, give me a freakin break. You may want to seek guidance from someone who recently took the exam.

Alex -

I actually put that comment in (regarding lack of current best evidence, especially bony palpation of the sacrum) at the end of my exam, where they ask for feedback. Unfortunately, they limit how much you can write, but I used up all of the space that I could. Funny that you had that comment a few years ago, and I ran into the same exact thing just this year. I remember studying those tests (Gillette, long-sitting) before the exam, knowing that they were not really useful, but also knowing they would likely come up...

Thanks for the input. I agree that the studying/preparation is the basis for the knowledge gain. I'm just a bit anxious because the test is so expensive, I don't want to fail!!!

I'm getting ready to start studying for next years exam...I'm due to have my baby next month. Of those that got the ortho prep material from APTA, how was the exam? Did you need additional resources to answer the questions or are you able to go through that material and answer the questions. I've signed up for a study group through my company but it meets throughout the year and I need to get the test back to APTA within 4 months to get CEU credit. Any suggestions?
