This may be an old topic. But can any of you OCS PT's outthere share some of your ways that you prepared for the OCS exam. Perhaps any review books that may have worked for you.
Just looking at adding some alphabet letters to my name...

I only did what I still do......read lots and lots of material, mostly NOT directly PT related. That's where you learn the basics, and can then apply to therapy later.

I read "Orthopedic Physical Therapy Secrets" (got it on eBay for $10), reviewed the last few years of JOSPT, and purchased the Orthopedic sections home study course on "Current Concepts of Ortho PT".
That seemed to cover the bases for me- research and EBM, biomechanics, etc. are all discussed in those resources.

I haven't taken the exam yet (not sure when I can take it actually) but in addition to the above recommendations I would like to add Brotzman and Wilk's "Clinical Orthopedic Rehabilitation" and Josh Cleland's "Orthopaedic Clinical Examination: An Evidence Based Approach for Physical Therapists" to your reading list. I have yet to purchase the latter, but have heard nothing but great reviews on it.

"John, not all of us are gifted like you man!....must be nice"...yes it was nice in college, but not sure how it pertains to OCS....ha
My suggestion (besides joining PTupdate.com): Xerox a bunch of articles, and every night before turning out the light, read one and then just toss it on the floor when done. Unless you are reading one of thoe mammoth ones in AAOS, the 15 minutes won't kill you.
Also, as far as a book, read Duttons orthopaedic book, found at www.duttononline.com

I also the did the Ortho sections home study course. It's a 12 monograph series, and I found that was very helpful. Not to mention, I got some CEU's out of it.

Dutton's book is the best ortho text I've read so far. Still reading it!

Mark was my classmate at Pitt for PT school. His text was the reason for our first correspondance since that time, and he appeared happy with the review of his book that I did on the site. Now I want to move on to his spine book, which I heard was very comprehensive.

Just a heads up. The Orthopedic Physical Therapy Secrets book is coming out with a second edition at the end of this month. It is supposed to be updated with new shoulder and EBP stuff.

Is Dutton's spine book new or a book that was published a few years ago?

PHSPT,
FYI, if you do come into the Navy and you haven't taken the OCS exam, they will pay for it. And there is a specialty bonus once you acquire specialty certification.

Hey guys please list all possible reviewers/books/articles so we can prepare more in this OCS exam. Your two cents is highly appreciated.

I'm also preparing for the ocs exam, and other that just doing some general reading, did anyone participate in any study groups? If so, how did you structure your group?
