hi new ot student.  when you get a shoulder or wrist fracture are you allowed to perform ROM measurements?  or do you call ortho. to find out what's allowed first without even touching it?  What do you write if you do the eval and have a call out to ortho?  how do you complete eval if it's sat. and ortho office doesn't open til monday?[&:]

  Based on the 6 posts you have presented on this Forum, it doesn't appear that you bring to the table any research you might have already done.
   
  We (I'm sure I speak for most on here..hopefully) do not mind helping/assisting/pushing students in right direction; HOWEVER, you have to bring relative clincial questions and show us you have atleast attempted alittle research yourself.  

  Asking closed ended protocol, ROM, fracture, and rehab questions is unacceptable.
  If you wouldn't have said you were an OT student I would have thought you were a patient asking questions. I'm hoping you have access to your  school books, CI, and/or Professors? Are you on an internship?

I'm sure you are a bright student and I'm not trying to be a d__k but I want you to be an independent learner and thinker.

Wow. If you feel better about yourself by writing what you did to my post, I guess it was worth it.  Pretty unprofessional to say the least.

There is not an unprofessional word in USAPT's post. A bit crusty, but with apparent justification - but NOT unprofessional.
I fully agreed with the gist of his post.

I want you to re-read the post. There is nothing UN-professional written in the post, it's the truth. If you are offended by what I wrote on an on-line forum, what are you going to do when you get a pissed off MD in your face or on the phone with you? It was constructive and instead of learning from it you got pissed, well too bad. Like I said, we WILL help you as best we can but show us an effort on your part to learn for yourself. As a new OT student, your questions are probably not out of line but they probably should be directed to your professor or clinical instructor rather than in this forum.

Crusty in a good way, like bistro bread.  I thought your post was professional and certainly not rude.  Its how i would have spoken to one of my clinical students when they ask me a question they might be able to find the answer to  themselves. 

Lifelong learning is something that not enough people take seriously.

I think it's society today, alot of people are basically lazy and want someone else to spoon feed them answers or do the work themselves.
Picking up a JOSPT and reading it shouldn't take effort if you want to keep up in this field. Reading this forum for varying perspectives on treatments is a great learning tool for all of us not to mention a student who has little to no exp to stand on.
