Mike, I am a bit anal about these things, but we always know the "source" of pain: the brain - after it has processed the input, the experience of pain is the output of the brain (much as the words you see are an output of cognitive processing of input through the eyes).

PTLA, Sorry about the non-response, I haven't been checking in the last few days. Gary Gray's frame of reference is much like what apolipo said. I would add that he describes much of what he treats in terms of a kinetic chain. What does the hip do when the subtalar joint pronates? What really controls the subtalar joint? How would a failure of appropriate pronation at the subtalar joint on the R foot of a right handed pitcher affect his ability to throw fastballs safely and with good velocity? My whole approach to musculoskeletal evaluation and movement has been radically changed for the better. Like I said I have been to I think 7 of Gary's seminars. Each one has nearly the same outline but I learn different things each time. I think of him as a philosopher who generates the clinical questions that researchers should investigate. I believe that when studies are done properly they will prove that Gary has it nailed.

Sebastian, I agree that the source of all pain is the brain, as I was just explaining to a pt. earlier today. In my post, I was referring to the tissue that was generating the input that led to the brain interpreting the input as painful. Mike T

Hi Kamryn: Thanks for the link; videos make it so much easier to actually "get" what the course is about. Checked the link and I'm liking what I see. I'm definitely planning on taking his course. Teri

Hi, Tom: Thanks for your reply and additional feedback about the kinetic chain. Kamryn sent me a link to watch videos of Gary in action, and he's got my attention. Definitely will be planning to take a course w/him... Teri
