hai
i am working in cardio -thoracic i c u. should i mobilize the patient with either walker or cane who  underwent double valve replacement through median sternotomy now and he is one and half year old case of tronchantric fracture treated non operatively and he was ambulant with elbow cruch before this surgery,
our cardio -thoracic surgeon says his sternum is very thin and i am worried about his sternotomy precaution.

If the sternotomy is your only concern...absolutely walk them.  If the surgeon states he/she is not concerned, then you will be fine.   you are NOT going to break the wires.  These patients have to walk and mobilize their lymphatics to prevent pneumonia.
