V Can -> OCS preparation (May 23, 2008 1:44:40 PM)

Hi,

I have been a silent reader of this forum for a while now and decided to come out of my cave [:)]to seek help with my OCS preparation.
I have been practising PT for 5 years in several different settings but have concentarted only in out patient Orthopedics for the past 1 yr. I wasn't sure whether I have to wait a couple of years to gain experience in Ortho to face OCS but thought I could give a try so that I can atleast streamline PT implementations thru the knowledge gained. I am not afraid of hard work and wanted to hear from successful PTs regarding their OCS preparation.
Inputs are appreciated on preparation experiences and approaches toward the exam and ofcourse referrences. Thanks for your time.

Here is a link to a rehabedge topic that covered the question you are asking. Very informative.

Hope this helps you.

On the one hand I wish the ortho section would develop some study materials, BUT I will say I learned a lot studying for the OCS on my own.  It made it that much more gratifying.

Thanks JSPT and Texas Ortho. This helps to get started.

Here is a link sent to me not too long ago talking about proposed eligibility requirements to take the OCS exam. Interesting

Wow, jma.  I really hope I passed my OCS.  The proposed standards would make it nearly impossible for me to sit for the exam if they are enacted.

I practice in a fairly isolated area.  I would have a really hard time satisfying the proposed requirements, and it would likely mean spending big bucks to meet the requirements.

If employers started paying more for certification, it may offset the costs.  Otherwise, I see this as being a huge barrier to working towards certification.

As much as it would be tough to meet the proposed standards.  I do support raising the bar.
