Alex Brenner PT MPT OCS -> Am I missing something here... (May 1, 2008 9:36:35 AM)

I am in the Army so I have been gone a while, but now I'm back. I noticed that all the cool guys here no longer put MPT, DPT, OCS, CSCS etc. on the end of their names. Is it no longer cool to do this? Am I the last PT dork to find out about this?

Alex, just a PT

Welcome back to an old friend.

A discussion was started over on EIM about the use of all the initials, and I think as a group everybody realized that nobody knows what half that stuff means, even within our own profession.  I noted how I will put RSW (Really Swell Guy) and other fake initials after my name for PT lectures, and while it looks impressive, nobody even asks what they mean.

So, the new trend is just to state you are a PT, and then use words under to describe what the specialties are.  And yes, you may be the last PT dork to learn about this

Maybe we need an initials anonymous to help those of us who can't stop getting initials behind our names.

Doug, a cheat sheet, glossery, anything would help.  Website:  www.ptinitialsdefined.org

And, what does all that stuff after YOUR name mean?  I am just curious

Bournephysio -> RE: Am I missing something here... (May 1, 2008 11:30:47 AM)

The first two are bachelors degrees, kinesiology being the first one. M.Sc. was a research masters. The (c) behind the phd stands for candidate meaning that I have passed my candidacy exam(something phds have nightmares about even years later. its even worse than the thesis defence). I am hoping to get rid of the (c) this year. The last two are well known in Canada. CAFCI is certificate of the acupuncture foundation of canada institute and FCAMT is fellow of the canadian academy of manipulative therapy. I'm a career student.

Good stuff Doug.  Do you know Jan Dammerholt (sp?)...he practices acupuncture and needling down in Bethesda....used to post on this site years ago, but seems to have dropped away.

Nice to have you back. Can you talk administration and see if you can get the radiology case studies back?

Bournephysio -> RE: Am I missing something here... (May 1, 2008 1:20:39 PM)

I seem to recall him posting here but other than that I don't know him. I wonder what happened to the other PhDs who used to post here (mcap and Drew)

Dommerholt. And I have no idea where he is either.....

I'm probably the only dumbass who clicked on John's link.

SJBird55 -> RE: Am I missing something here... (May 1, 2008 7:33:42 PM)

Hey, Alex... I've left voice messages on 2 numbers... I've emailed... I decided you disappeared and I came this close (really, really close) to emailing Zack Attack to see what the heck was going on with you!  If I knew were you were, I'd stalk you!  ;)  WHERE are you???!?  Will you email me and fill me in??  And why the heck don't you allow private messages????  The things I gotta do just to communicate with you!  LOL  And, hey... are you going to the derby tomorrow or Saturday??

Doug, I thought you were finally done last year!

jma,
I have to add some more radiographs to my teaching library. We pretty much went through them all on the forum here before. I may have some more to add so I will get with the administrators and see if we can start them back up if there is enough interest.

SJ,
I sent you an email.

Alex

Rod, it's not your fault you clicked that link, you're only 12....you probably had the Wiggles on and were distracted

Alex, good to have you back. You never responded to my emails either.  Where's the love. man?

mcap still prowls here, but he took down his site, which I always had posted as a big banner on my own (thebackpage.net).  He learned, as so many others, that running a website is a thankless time and money pit.

I have been trying to hunt down Drewfus Ball, as my 2.5 year old suffered a completely displaced supracondylar fracture.  Cast was taken off Monday, pins pulled out, and I have to figure a way to get the motion back.  So far, two nights of tylenol with codeine have given me the chance to get extension deficit from 45 deg down to 20-25 (hard to measure when he's in bed with wife and 5 year old as well), and flexion to 130.  He has his PhD in peds and I have always trusted his guidance

Rod:  A billion aplogies...I mixed you and Jason Harris up...you both have good blogs that I like to check out, and I like to bust on Jason for looking 14 year old...Sorry man, you probably didn't have a clue what I was referring to!!!

No worries boss.

No SJ still going.

David Adamczyk -> RE: Am I missing something here... (May 4, 2008 8:26:23 PM)

Hello Alex,

Welcome back.  If you ever want to start hosting again, we're ready to accommodate.  Your participation, in any form, would be great.

Dave
