rwillcott -> Parkinson's (April 28, 2008 12:23:54 PM)

I have a 39 year old male with a recent diagnosis of Parkinson's.  He has been having some balance and gait issues.  He was referred to physiotherapy for balance exercises.  He does not compain of pain, however, reports difficulty performing prolonged walking.  He also reports stiffness of his lower back, knees and hands.  He is weaker on his right side.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good balance/strengthening exercises to begin with him.

For balance/gait:
-activities on the parallel bars (mini squats, side steps, weight shifting, SLS ex, high marches, heel raises, step ups, etc.)

For LBP, etc:
-trunk rotation in supine, postural correction/exercises, stretching activities to address knees and hands.

I'll look through some articles and notes I have laying around and see if I can come up with anything else.

Hope this helps.
