Looking for some good literature (an article I suppose) to give the typical patient with LBP (mainly patients with disc issues). It's helpful to have some literature to review about a certain condition even if a medical professional has explained it well. It's not always easy for a patient to keep 100% attention while you are educating them. I have found some articles and such on MedLine but wanted to see if anyone has better suggestions. I'm hoping for something that touches on research and discusses the importance of physical activity .... of course, it needs to be somewhat easy to understand.

Do you guys give your patients something to take with them other than a HEP?

Thanks.

Allen

I just recently posted a blog article on such a thing.  You can go here for all the details.  The book/information is called "Back Care Boot Camp".

There are a series of patient education information that we give to patients that is from the Saunders Group. Here is the site that has these materials:

The Back Book has been shown to be a very useful education tool in multiple studies in both acute and chronic cases of low back pain.

For those who respond to repeated movements, primarily extension, I will often lend out my copy of McKenzie's Treat Your Own Back, and some patients buy it.  My favorite is when they've already read Treat Your Own Back - it saves me loads of time, and the patients don't have to sit through my long speeches.
