Jason, I was interpreting his suggestion wrong and thought it was to do away with with listing certifications so I apologize for confusion I may have caused with arguing my point. The question now becomes what certifications do we allow to be listed. I know some have suggest only APTA sponsered/credentialed certs but this I would disagree with this stance. I know there are a lot of certs out there many of us may not hold much stock in but if the person has put in the time to obtain and want to list then they should be able to do so. This way they can educate patients and others as to what it is and then let patients/public decide if it is important. If someone has gone through a manual therapy program and spent 2-4 years and countless hours obtaining a certification (say for O. Grimbsy - this is not my case just an example) but does not pursue fellow status with the APTA, they should still be able to list this certification to educate patients the level of training they have obtained. I know this will lead to some confusion because each manual therapy programs uses different ways to describe certification but this is what we have to work with for now. I would hope in the future the multiple manual therapy certs could get together and decide on a common descriptor and universal requirements to obtain such a descriptor.

I feel ,lot of people are advocating taking out the soup, just because flynn, childs or cleland want us to and not because it makes more sense. Are we analysing the situation ourselves or we are blindly following the modern day giants of Physical Therapy. I think a little bit of both. We all tend to jump on trends and join the bandwagon. However, as some have pointed out on this post, and convinced me to rethink my initial post. Childs, etc are pioneers in the profession for a reason. They are bright and have the insight to see things before a lot of us so in a way it makes sense to jump on the bandwagon.
