I am seriously considering PT school, but wanted to check on a few things first.  Is it possible as a physical therapist to take on assignments year round instead of accepting a permanent position?  So, if one year I wanted to work only 9 or 10 months out of the year, is it possible to take on multiple per diem assignments (not travel) to fulfill that or is that more difficult than it sounds?  Is it better to just take a permanent position rather than bothering with new assignments all the time?  Opinions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks [:)]

The field of therapy is flexible primarily due to the shortage of therapists.  I have known therapists that take only PRN positions.  If I am corerct they basically incorporate themselves for tax reasons. 

You could be PRN multiple places and likely would keep busy with vacation coverage, maternity coverage, etc.  Downside is no benefits, upside more pay per hour.  

Options are endless

I am drawn to physical therapy because it is a healthcare oriented, but also because it seems to offer a lot of flexability.  I would love to be able to every once in awhile take a break from working, which it seems like PT offers through PRN positions.

I agree with the previous post.  With the state of the market now you should have no problem keeping youself busy with per diem work, short term, long term or a combination of both.
