Hi all, it is very depressing for me right now. my evaluating agency has not accepted the detail documentation sent by university in India. As a result i lack many professional credits (some are basic like cardiopulmonary examination). As angry and depressed as I am, i can not argue with the agency beyond a point. I would like to know options in front of me. 1) enter into entry level masters or doctoral PT program so as to avoid the evaluation: I am thinking of doctoral -it is at least a degree further. i have a family to look after so i am considering part time/ online format. does anyone know such DPT programs other than FLEX at USA? 2) get all those deficient credits from universities like ATSU- ATSU has online t-DPT program that allows non-degree option. I am little skeptical to spend couple of years, money, not get a degree and still get evaluated in the end. 3) take up a short diploma/associate course to work as massage therapist or medical biller & coder- both programs are offered in my city but i need a visa to work. that visa in turn needs a bachelor degree. there are people who have worked around the system and gotten visa without bachelors. I just don't know anyone in massage therapy or medical billing. Does any one know Indian national in above fields working on visa? They sure would be of great help. I really don't know what other options I have. It is very frustating to sit at home after all these years of good education. Is there a federal body checking over these evaluating agencies? I know you probably don't want to hear this, but my little opinion is that we have US citizens to fill positions. I'm assuming that since you need a visa you are not a US citizen. Personally, I believe that US citizens should have providers that speak English (without thick foreign accents) and write English proficiently. From what I see above, I know without a doubt, just based on your writing ability, I'd never hire you. There are always options - the option I favor is the one you left out... you graduated from India... well, instead of sitting at home after all that good education, head back to India and serve the people of your country. Obviously your good education didn't meet the established criteria here. You obviously should have educated yourself about the US system and planned better so that you wouldn't be in your current state of anger and depression.

SJ, well said. Another option is to apply for a PT school in the good old USA and after graduation sit for the exam.

SJBIRD55, I am aghast to see your reply. Why such animosity against foreigners? FYI, I have done advanced masters from US, have passed NPTE with good score and had been practicing in another state. Regarding my writing skill, I am not writing a thesis here. A good PT does not need a flowery language but plain English would be sufficient to document his results. I don’t have to prove it to you that I am able to communicate well with my patients. As far as my returning India is concerned, that is none of your business. I needed some friendly advice in this situation hence the post. if you are not capable of giving it, just don't write anything and spread the hatred.

I don't hate you or anyone. You asked a question with regard to your options. You left out an option that I believe is an option for you. You don't have to agree to that option, but it is an option. I'm not sure how options can be regarded as "friendly" or "not friendly." A good PT is required to verbally communicate in English with most Americans. The PT is required to be understood both verbally and non-verbally by various stakeholders. Your communication is lacking because I don't understand your situation. You were practicing in another state which means you had a license. That means you must have had a visa. What happened? So, why are you asking about a master program or a DPT program when you already have an advanced masters from the US? Why were you asking about massage therapy? And what evaluating body are you referring and why is an evaluating body involved if you already have a license? I personally do not want to have my tax dollars supporting illegal immigrants. I also know that we have a lot of U.S. citizens and I'd rather see all of them employed before someone is given a green card or a visa. I'm sorry if you disagree with my beliefs, but I support U.S. citizens over any foreigner trying to have a voice and wanting something here in the States. I don't have hatred toward foreigners, I just don't support their endeavors here when we have enough issues in the States to deal with with our own citizens. No need to add foreigners in the mix, in my opinion.

I think Shalaka is looking for some help with regards to his/her situation, not an opinion piece about immigration policy. And I have seen much worse language here than that post..... I always believe that if anyone has an issue with a immigration/labour issue, it needs to be taken up with the legislative assemblies to change it. Not helpful to target those individuals within the system. I am an immigrant myself, and have had to jump through hoops to get my working visa in 1983-84. And like Shalaka, I worked inside the existing legal system of the country - any critics of the system should take it up with their lawmakers.... It is simple: if Shalaka has NO options under the present laws and provisions of your country's and states' laws and regulations, it is over and no visa will be provided.

There are some glaring inconsistencies, Bas. In November over in the University of Augustine thread and the FLEX program, shalaka didn't have a license and was looking for an accredited program. Now he has a license or had a license in 1 month of time?? Hmmm, not sure how shalaka can be practicing without a license. Actually he can practice as a physical therapist if he is being supervised by a physician in a referral for profit situation. He can also work in clinic as a tech. There is more to the story than shalaka is telling.

SJ, the content and factuality of Shalaka's story were of no concern with regards to my post - the immigration issue that you presented ("illegal"? how did THAT get in here?) was. Those who hire foreign trained PTs within the laws are the ones you need to vent with - no those who completely legally attempt to make a life here. But - that is just MY opinion.

SJBIRD55, Everytime I start a thread/reply to some, I don't have to write my background regarding visa status or licensure. My visa status is NOT the intention of this post. I have a license since 2004, but why, I don't have to explain it to you. And btw not every immigrant is illelegal.... Like Sebastian said, this is not a platform for your personal agenda against foreign nationals. I asked simple questions and hoped for some help in return not a scrutiny of my status in the country. Who gave you that right anyway? I am not going to reply you and entertain this anymore. Sabastian, Thanks for your support. I just want to know if I have to appeal against decision of evaluating agency, whom should I go to? Thanks again

Shalaka, I have absolutely NO idea. I am in Canada and have dangerously little understanding of the various requirements in the individual states. Be patient for a bit - someone will get their head out of the new year's hangover daze and log on.....And hopefully provide you with some answers. Sorry.
