Hello,
Here is some info concerning loan repayment from the PT Bulletin: This should be a nice incentive for those who wish to work in underserved areas.
"Senate Student Loan Bill Introduced
Physical therapists who choose to practice in underserved areas would be eligible for student loan debt relief under legislation recently introduced in the US Senate. Sen Jon Tester (D-MT) has introduced a Senate version of the Physical Therapist Student Loan Repayment Eligibility Act (S 2485). A House version introduced in February has wide bipartisan support.
Under the measure, PTs serving in areas with limited access to health care providers could be covered under the National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program. Currently, the program includes primary care physicians, dentists, nurse midwives, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and mental behavioral health professionals practicing in federally designated shortage areas."

I heard of this a while back.  So how is "underserved areas" defined?  Also, is it complete reimbursement?

According to their website:

"What are underserved communities?

Approximately 50 million people live in federally designated primary care health professional shortage areas (HPSAs) located throughout the United States and its territories. The people living in these communities are medically underserved-they have limited access to primary health care due to financial, geographic, cultural, or language barriers."

If you click on the link for the National Health Service Corps, it should tell you the information you are looking for. The article written in the PT Bulletin mentioned a loan program but when you also look into the webiste, it also mentions scholarships. Whether this will also be included as well is not clear at this time."

"President Signs Bill Extending Student Loan Aid to PTs
President Bush signed into law yesterday legislation (HR 4137) reauthorizing federal programs under the Higher Education Act, including provisions that will enable PTs who treat children, adolescents, and veterans to apply for up to $10,000 over 5 years in student loan repayment aid. However, PTs will not be able to apply for loan assistance until the US Department of Education finalizes regulations implementing the changes in the student loan program. APTA will work with the agency to develop those regulations.  "
