I just saw a pt today (it was his 3rd visit) and i got up the couragec(LOL) to do the whip and the results were impressive. He stood up and walked with no pain. He still had a slightly altered gait but I think that is from being in a walking boot for 4 weeks prior to seeing PT. Hopefully it isn't beginner's luck. I and the pt are cautiously optomistic.

Falls,

You sure your patient didn't have a termite infestation in his cuboid, or better yet, you sure he wasn't smacked by a USPS truck? :)

Glad to see it worked for your patient! According to the study, the patients that responded immediately returned to sporting activities the SAME day. Wow! Weeks or months of lateral ankle pain and WHAM...back on the field in one day.

I suppose you could have just scared the heck out of him

"yeah, yeah, it's all better, no more whipping"

I think it's pretty cool that you did it, it must have taken some nerve to try it for the first time.

Speaking of dogs and meniscus, my Mom had knee pain for several weeks, went to the doctor and was told that she had a meniscus problem and surgery was scheduled. That night her dog was sleeping on her leg and when she tried to pull her leg out from underneath, POP, hurt for 5 seconds and then total recovery and no signs since, 1 year ago.

LOL I did threaten to continue the whippings until patient moral improved but once was enough. :)
I remain cautiously optmistic. Will recheck him Monday and give an update. Thanks for the forum and support. Ed

Zack, He was tender over the Ant CFL and CFL (no this is not the football league EH) and slightly over the anterior cuboid area. Interestingly the cuboid area was the less tender area of the 3.

Apparently it is Chinese for "perfect pitch" but it is also the name of this guy.
Ahead of his time and he seemed to have a grasp of what science is even then. How slow we've progressed in some ways.

ROFL! Jon, you never cease to amaze me with your links. Barrett was right...'The Linkmaster' is a perfect fit for you, but I might go one step further in calling you 'The Key Master'. Why? Simply because you open a new door all the time for each of us here to explore. Keep 'em comin'. :)

Sure, I have to be Rick Moranis and everyone else gets to be Sigourney Weaver. No link for this reference. You'll have to figure it out on your own.

Up date. Pt came back today and was still sore but had a normal gait. He was still tender and i repeated the "whip". He had almost immediate return of motion to about 80% of normal in all planes. Will continue to monitor but the results were much better than I would have expected without doing it.

The next time the kid says, "Daddy, are we poor?" I now see the correct answer is "No, we suffer from non self inflicted poverty." Thanks, Jon.
