Anyone have have any idea of what the salary outlook is for this job. I checked bls.gov and they said 24,000-52000+ (all numbers from 2004). It would be nice to hear from people in the field who have actual first hand knowledge of this rather than a statistics website. I really want to get into the field of Physical therapy but my grades are horrible, I will be graduating with my BS in exercise science in May and am thinking of going to PTA school after that. I've been seeing job posts on the internet advertising jobs for PTA's starting at 40000-60000, how realistic is this?
Depends on what state, area of state. My wife is a PTA, In Penn., her rate was between 22K and 25K, here in Fla, it is well into the range 40K-60K range.
chrisatc, Where in Florida did you and your wife settle? I am asking b/c I just accepted a position in Gainesville, FL. How long have you been there? And how was the adjustment coming from Pa. to Fl.?
Florida does abuse the system nicely, therefore, PTAs make some good money, mainly because they are given their own schedules etc and treated like PTs for the most part. So, yes, they make anywhere from 60-75 a year here in south florida. And maybe more if they are doing home health.
and before I get the non believers I was the director of a PT staffing company, I know for a fact what we paid and what the clinics paid that we were competing with etc. 30-40 an hour, and 40 a patient for home health is pretty standard.
Do the salaries differ much from South Fl. to North/Central? I know the cost of living is much higer in South, Fl. So I am assuming the salaries correspond to the cost of living?
reenie, yes, I am south of tampa. Not sure of the cost of living of here compared to Gainesville and Orlando, but can't be too different. I know this is a PT forum, but even the ATC salaries are considerably skewed between here and Pa.
