SPORT-Rx -> Scheduled time for initial visit (September 11, 2006 6:38:00 AM)

I hope this has not already been discussed, I performed a search on the topic and it did not turn up anything.

In outpatient ortho/sports settings, how long do you allot for the initial visit?

I look forward to you input.

Dan

We generally allow one hour. 45 minutes if we are running low on patient slots.

We allow two patient "slots". Since we schedule every half an hour.......each evaluation gets one full hour.

Where I used to work, it was the same, except we only got 40 minutes for the evaluation (each patient was scheduled every 20 minutes).

Hope this helps.

One hour. This has been true for every outpt clinic that I have worked for - yes, even Healthsouth.

45 minutes - including education/treatment. Used to be an hour, but did not need that for most. Occasionally, my secretary (a very very good one!) checks with me because the patient has many areas of concern/complaint, and we then decide whether to book an hour or more. (I'm my own boss - what a strained relationship! LOL)

Wish that's what I got! 1/2 hour only. As a new grad and someone who likes to educate, this is frustrating.

I'd highly recommend at least 45 minutes.

Booking on the 1/2 hour is tough. Especially if the patient is late or you had some schedule changes with other patients.

We book an hour. Sometimes we need less, but it seems like there are a lot more patients coming in with multiple diagnoses. Is this trend due to decreasing insurance benefits?? Thoughts?

Sarah, you may well have a point there! Many patients here too are more aware of their coverage than ever before.
