Well, from a surgeon's perspective, a surgeon would probably want to know prior to cutting on a patient the surgical technique to perform. If I remember correctly, if the fragment came from the femur, the size of the chunk and depth of area missing from the femur does have relevancy in the surgical procedure to perform. (And I'm just guessing the chunk came from the condyle.) If that's the case, then further diagnostic testing may be warranted to establish the surgical procedure that surgeon may prefer to potentially give the best outcomes.
