Core, I would certainly avoid abdominal workouts. Get a hernia belt - they can really help in protecting the hernia from "spilling out" while you continue to work and live before your consult. The belt will give some protection, but NOT enough to eliminate the forces that one can generate (or the opponent) in soccer or basketball. The abrupt changes of direction combined with trunk rotation and twisting in both sports, contact with opponents etc etc., make them high risk. Accept it! You are snookered for a while. Use bike, walk, elliptical etc to stay fit (with the belt on!). All the best.
