I would imagine the patient HAD septic arthritis and is either in the hospital being treated, or if you are in the outpatient setting, he/she has been successfully treated. There is no contraindication except for active septic arthritis with joint destruction...in which case you clearly would know not to "crunch" through painful ROM. You are not going to "spread" the bacteria. Treat the patient recovering from septic arthritis like any post surgical treatment...slow and gentle but progressive.
