So you spent more time in technique than the USA folks, but they spent more time in differential diagnosis, radiology, and pharm (MGH is strong in these areas, and research consumerism as well). I'd argue that a discussion on which makes for the better clinician is like discussing which, oranges or apples, make for the better fruit. It's exactly why DPT's come in so many flavors. One size does not fit all.

Why not an MGH DPT while working toward Maitland certification while working with an FAAOMPT??? Are you SURE that your program makes for the best clinician? Depends upon the situation, network, and connections of the student.

Drew, there are many options available, I never said that the OGI was THE BEST, that would be quite a claim to make seeing as it is the only one I have completed. All of your options sound great as well, especially if you are looking more towards the academic side of things vs. the clinical side. To each his own. Personally my next goal is to go for the FAAOMOPT designation which will require either attending a fellowship program or challenging the board. That is the path that I choose, having attended several AAOMOT conferences and seeing/hearing the level of skill and understanding that most of the Fellows have achieved. Plus this is what I love to do. Good Luck in completion of your DPT!

Rick,

I too am a member of the AAOMPT. I'm considering Maitland certification and/or Functional Manual Therapy certification, then taking the challenge exam. Keep me posted on your progress!

FYI, I think that if someone was looking to do a program with BOTH qualities you're talking about and qualities I'm talking about, they may want to consider the MGH tDPT/MS program in orthopedics.

Drew, look at recent evidence contradicting Maitlainds theories on PA segmental mobility testing before you make your decision, don't have links at this late hour. I had taken Maitland's spinal course prior to initiating my training through the OGI, for whatever that is worth. You will need evidence of hours of training in manipulation (by that I mean thrust) prior to challenging the board, don't know if Maitland and/or Functional Manual Therapy will give you those hours. Do know that that is what I am lacking at this point as Ola did not teach thrust to his initial DPT class (except thoracic and extremity manips). I do appreciate the discussion.
