"IMO PT's should be able to write limited scripts. If I were a PT this is what I would focus on first. "
This will be happening shortly.

In Canada maybe. Man, if only the US had the Loonie I'm sure we'd have that too

Certainly in Canada we are seeing PT become recognized as experts in NMSK management. This is leading to PT's becoming the primary care clinicians in this area. Direct access already exists but the ball has just started rolling on this. I like the direction PT in canada is heading.
Ironically, it is the superb research coming out of the US that is assisting this movement.
I worked in the US for three years and I think changes occur more slowly down there. I have to think with DPT's and the expanding research in the US, PT's in the US will eventually reach the level of independance they should currently have.

I will be really surprised if PT's OR DC's are writing prescriptions anytime soon. I believe the AMA is too strong politically to allow this to happen.
OTOH it's fairly obvious healthcare is going to go through big changes in the next 10-20 years due to $ so maybe there's a chance. It will be interesting.

Don't forget that there is also an active debate for prescription priveleges for psychologists. I believe that in New Mexico, they even passed a law.
The medication debate is likely one that is going to continue but changes will be very slow. The AMA is very defensive about their turf on this one. I am not sure where I stand on this one personally........certainly what occurs in the military seems to work well. Out in the civilian world, it could be different.

New Mexico Chiropractors are also jumping on that bandwagon, and I hear they may be close to getting limited script rights.
