Years ago under the Physiotherapy listing in the yellow pages chiropractors, massage practitioners, osteopaths and naturopaths all advertised. Then only one line was allowed, name, profession, address and telephone number.
So this is all that was necessary? Just a yellow-page directory re-organization? :D
Great story re: the shoulder James. To PTs in other provinces, now PABC sends a directory of PT members out to every doctor, and maintains an on-line directory for the general public. It doesn't contain every PT in the province, because not all PTs join their own professional organization (crazy not to), but I hear there are improvements with every passing year. So the best way to battle imposters is to have a strong org. with good PR, to help the real ones of us stand out against the ones who would camouflage themselves as us. James, you are truly a wealth of info. Glad to know you.

dfj, It didn't take much effort to change the listing. Went to the Telephone office one lunch time and explained my concerns and that was that. At the same time I requested a second number for my office and it was explained to me that is some strings of numbers are easily remembered. These needn't be as noticably easy as in the PT School Alberta which was and perhaps stll is 4321234. If the pre fix is the same for every number in town only the last four need to be easy and if you go to the telephone shop in the mall you can be shown, on screen all the numbers available and pick the one you think will be most easily remembered. Well, it took a wee while, but I got an answer on this from a UBC librarian:
This is to answer your question about the protection of term physiotherapy in British Columbia. I am a colleague of Eugene Barsky's and found that as you noted, physiotherapy is a provincially regulated term. In British Columbia, the term physiotherapy is reserved only for people who are registered with the College of Physical Therapists of British Columbia.
I found this information by looking at the "Health Professions Act: Physical Therapists Regulation". It states, No person other than a registrant may use the title "physical therapist", "registered physical therapist", "physiotherapist", "registered physiotherapist", "remedial gymnast" or "registered remedial gymnast". http://www.qp.gov.bc.ca/statreg/reg/H/HealthProf/485_94.htm#section%203
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
