I missed this whole thing last week. Like it would have mattered.

Barrett: Thanks. Thanks for inspiring me to write more often... and challenging me to think... and to write more often.

This is truly unfortunate.

However, I am a moderator of multiple web sites for non-PT topics, and have been 'online' in many forums as such for a long time. This type of thing happens all of the time. I wish it didn't, but it does.

But most importantly, thanks for giving me a chance to write more - my writing skills are improving. Imagine if this site had a built in spell checker?

Drew,

There must be another Randy. I have no connection to RehabEdge except as an occasional, and sometimes more than occasional, poster.

My view on the matter was that I liked Barret's forum, it was the primary reason I came here in the first place, but it's David's site and he can do with it what he wants, Barrett made his choice, which I respect, and I will make my choice. Simple as that.

PT bulletin is not on my favorites list, there's nothing there that's not boring.
All my interesting friends have idiosyncrasies. I accept that, in order to enjoy the rest of what they offer me, and I'm sure they do the same for me.
Sure, on RE we have to open alot of oysters to find a few pearls. Scarcity creates value.
I guess I'll have to learn to live with NOI's purple.
I thought RE's range of forums covering the continuum of therapy was what made it head and shoulders above the rest, and the sometimes controversial posting made it interesting.
Now I find that much goes on behind the scenes to protect me and the rest of us from such controversial and knowledgeable characters as Drew. I can't believe it. Who's next to offend CEU providers, if that's what this is about, Jason.
This is like not letting the Budweiser Clydesdales be in the parade because they produce bigger piles of poop than the rest of the horses.
The private forum business was an insult to Barrett, and anyone who has had free access to the Bullypit all this time.
I hope the application of Oust deodorizer spray makes the stink palatable to whoever your're trying to please. It does not please me.

Randy Dixon... I was going to step in earlier and clarify for you (but figured Drew could since he mentioned "Randy."). Drew still hasn't technically clarified for you though, so I'll at least step in so you aren't continuing to wonder.

Since Drew didn't address it and did start that post with "Randy," I believe he was sorely mistaken in whom he was actually speaking. I believe that Drew actually believed he was directing his post to Randy Moore. If I'm accurate in my assumption, I hope that clarifies things for you, Randy Dixon.

SJ, yes that's accurate. I wasn't directing my post toward Randy Dixon, other than to clarify to him what it was that I found inappropriate about Randy M. and David A.'s recent actions. I can see how that may have come over confusing, so I've since edited my original post for clarity.

That's not to say that they (David A and Randy M) should not be commended for what they've built here. They should. I'm just a little disappointed in how they handled all of this in such a professionally novice way, and disheartened in the value (or lack there of) they're seeming to place in the human resources that made their advertising stream possible in the first place. Barrett is not the only "injured party" in that regard, and it's increasingly clear that David A and Randy M either don't realize that, or don't care to.

That said, I encourage Barrett to self-reflect upon how he could have handled the situation a little less defensively as well. I'm sure that a more reasonable solution could have been worked out, if both parties fully respected what the other brought to the table. I've known Barrett personally and professionally for a long time now, and I've never seen him get so offended so quickly. He's many things, but he's not inpatient, and he's not easily offended. This just seems a little out of character, or maybe we're all just getting older, wiser, and less are less willing to tolerate being taken advantage of. It's certainly why I've not posted as prolifically the past few years. Why give away intellectual property only to watch others gain financially from it?

Seems to me that Barrett, and others, are owed more than a mere apology, and are VERY lucky that they're not dealing with the kind of people that would be likely to sue them for a piece of ownership in RehabEdge.

In any event, having this aired in public forum can't be good for Randy M or David A's ad revenue, but they "reap what they sew." I just hope that they, and Barrett and the other originators, can reach some kind of arrangement before this gets any uglier.

Drew

I scan the pages of the daily papers for bad news every christmas/boxing day, expecting to read about the latest tsunami, earthquake or other population reducing natural disaster. This christmas the pages were filled with cricket, as they should be.
I turn then to my favourite playground to feel connected to those of us who enjoy freedom of speech. Only to find a mini cyclone has swept one of us away.
RE is such a good forum , has been the means and space for many of us to catch ourselves being trite, complacent, dreary or careless.
RE has so many great contributors, each with their own idiosynchratic flavour. Each willing to share and face up to the sharp minds of those like Barrett Dorko. While noone "is" RE, it does seem like Barrett may have thrown himself out with the bathwater, when common sense has not prevailed.
Bad choice David.
I hope Barrett, that you can still find your way to this forum and mingle, cajole, interpret and keep us honest from time to time.
Love your work.
Geoff

In 1999, RehabEdge was created by Dave and Randy to encourage therapists, who have digested the available research and combined it with clinical experience, to share this knowledge with their colleagues. The site was designed as an infrastructure to build a library of knowledge that is based on the contributions of thousands of physical therapists from across the United States. We were surprised and delighted that our international colleagues often joined in the effort. After 6 years, the website has over 6000 members and countless searchable threads on a myriad of physical therapy topics. Despite the size of any EGO or covert intentions, no single therapist can claim responsibility for “building” RehabEdge.

Since the APTA has made it very clear that EBP is a priority for our industry, many well respected PT’s have expended great energy toward helping the profession move in that direction.

The owners of RehabEdge have carefully considered the direction that the company will take to promote the professional growth of the PT industry. We have listened to the constructive criticism received from industry leaders and are acting accordingly.

The following link to the Evidence in Motion website provides a snapshot of the criticism that we have heard from industry leaders: http://blog.evidenceinmotion.com/evidence/2005/09/our_ceu_approva.html

The owners of RehabEdge respect the opinion and work of John Childs. We will try to move the site in the right direction, with the help of RehabEdge members who still support the site. We would like to continue our work of promoting collegial support with an emphasis on discussion of published research, clinical practice, and professional issues. We will continue to seek the advice of industry leaders to help us make decisions that are best for the PT profession.

The intention of password protecting Mr. Dorkos’ Forum was to allow him continued use of our site as a medium for his discussions with his followers while we moved forward with the goals of our business. We never asked Mr. Dorko to leave RehabEdge. We choose not divulge much of the information that helped us to make our business decision.

Finally, if you do not support what we are trying to accomplish here, we will have to agree to disagree.

We wish to move on with the work of RehabEdge.
