Do the chickens have large talons?
Very nice quote...one of my favs! For those of you who are unfamiliar with this line, try this link and click on THE CHICKENS HAVE LARGE TALONS. (make sure your sound is turned up)
Here's a few of my other favorite quotes:
"Are you drinking 2% because you think you're fat? You could drink whole milk if you wanted to."
"I like your sleeves...they're real BIG."

I agree with Alex, that was not exciting at all. Not the way, I would want to have dinner made with us nearby.

The sealers on the east coast of Canada must suffer repetative injuries when sealing in the Spring. It isn't easy to work from sun up to sun down bludgeoning 275,000 new born seal pups to death. Also there is the psychological strain of knowing the mother is watching. However an American celebrity chef called Rocco DiSpirito is leading the charge to end this inhuman act. On his menu this week in his New York upscale eatery is boneless lamb loins, breast of veal, sauteed calf brains and last, but perhaps not least is fattened goose liver. Jim McGregor

Speaking of poultry, how do you think those workers in Europe are handling the goods with the threat of avain flu lurking around?

Nicole,
Sorry for where this thread went but I've got to post this. It takes a while to download but is well worth the wait (says me). This was aired on ESPN by the way.

Chris, it still seems to be working, at least on my computer.
Based on everyone's points and Randy's link, it seems to me that there is plenty of profit to be made on the entire bird that maybe those laboring in the industry aren't being compensated fairly, or at least an insufficient percent of corporate earnings are being used to enhance the safety of laborers.

On this topic:
Friday morning, the exterminator had to come and deal with the ant issue that has been a plague to our home and a threat to sanitation and, thus, the safety of our 3 almost 3 year olds. The ants were led to their slaughter by a spray solution (the same one used at the local hospital and nursing home) that works on their nervous system. It causes them to sprint to the liquid, which slows them down and then they stop. And then they tumble harmlessly to the floor and join their compadres in a small growing pile of carnage along the floor. If only we had found the excess Kix sooner... these ants would not have had to suffer.
2. I could not get home because my road was closed. One of those aforementioned chicken trucks had turned over, due to the heavy rains. So there were birds and blood and guts and feather all over the place. And a few 'survivors'. Not sure what they did with them, as they were beakless and not exactly capable of finding food for themselves. Alas I was able to drive around the carnage and get home to my kids - and the piles of ant carcasses.
We produce enough grain in the US (and feed it to animals we later kill for food) to feed the entire continents of Africa and Asia.
This is a non-PT related topic, and this is a comment I read often. I live in an an area that vastly depends upon the poultry industry for its very survival. Our economy is not entirely poultry based, but it would be an economic tragedy if - one day - all poultry industries were eliminated. From the farmer, to the trucker, to the processor... many of those in and around me contribute to this.
As for the issue of growing grain, I would advise you to consider eating some of the corn grown for feed. It is different sub-species entirely.

Paul- Yeah, I hear the slave owners in the US were worried about their economic tragedies in the mid 19th century if their immoral activities were stopped. They even started a war about it. They sure rationalized pretty strongly as well. Their culture indoctrinated them with a feeling of superiority over another group, and they felt this was the natural way for things to be. They also responded with visceral anger and biting sarcasm against those who challenged their views.
We can rationalize all we want, but murder is murder, and torture is torture.
I'm sure feed corn tastes yucky. Does that mean that the land cannot be used for raising grain to feed people? Of course not.
I acknowlege the non-PT topic, I don't want to hijack the thread anymore than I already have, I'll bow out with apologies to Nicole for steering her thread for deeper water than I think she wanted... J

Someone started a war over killing a chicken? I didn't know slave owners where in the poultry industry, it's absolutely amazing what you can learn on rehabedge. ;)

Almost almost all of the posts were quite appetizing but I'm sure the wurst is yet to come. Nari, I hear kangaroos steaks are popular at the dinner table in OZ, they say they are easily captured having run out of bounds. Jim McGregor
