Barrett

Is there enough of you for all of us to hide behind?

Actually, Diane, that is an interesting illogicality...is it possible for all of us to be hiding behind each other? Even Escher may not have tried to portray that one.

Oops. Sorry Greg...

Nari, of course it's possible for all of us to be hiding behind each other, just depends on where your vantage point is and when. I'm sure if anyone could depict that it would be Escher.

All Escher aside...
:)

Randy-
I agree. I think we're together on this one.

To me, it's really satisfying that 'deep model' type of thing, incorporating biologic plausibility, and the marketing/explanation of the effect that can be the big difference between alt-med wackiness and a possibly useful therapy that simply doesn't have an RCT behind it.

I think in the end, no one here is interesting in discounting something that might possibly be useful. And as much fun as my dismissive sarcastic attitude can be (for me anyway), really leaving ourselves open to future advances involves equal parts open mindedness and scientific method. I think most people have the first part of that. It's the second that can be the kicker.

Luke-
I appreciate you opening the door for me on the nutrition thing, but I think I've done worn out my Vegan soapbox here on RE. But thanks anyway, buddy. :)

Man, Nanaimo is sounding like fun. Hell, it's fun just trying to pronounce. And I don't even bite my lip...

Hey Jason,
Why don't you come on up and join the fierce conversations that are bound to be happening in the Nanaimo bar? (That would be the pub, as opposed to the well-known dessert square by the same name..)

Really it's not that far from wherever you are, Texas? And the exchange rate is good for you. I promise I'll find you some veggies somewhere..
:)

Thanks, Diane, but I'm over here near Washington, DC without enough shekels for the trip.
Maybe next time...
:)

Thanks to Jon Newman the linkmaster for this little gem I picked up on another thread, I thought it pertinent:

I'm afraid I don't know how to make a browser link appear as nifty highlighted words, but that's why I'm not The Linkmaster....

Hi Jason,

I learned that trick from Eric Matheson. Use the "URL" button found in the "Instant UBB Code" area, paste your URL when prompted. The next prompt will ask you how you want that link to read in your post.

I think a better moniker for me might be SPENDS TOO MUCH TIME ON THE INTERNET master.

Thanks Jon.
I think in the article there, the last paragraph or two really speaks to some of the issues about coverage of alt-med in the media.

Thanks for the tip on the link--wondered how you guys did that. I guess I have "studied" the internet and have not yet "learned" it ;) I wish I would have had some of this information a few years ago when I was pleading my case in front of the administrator and board when one of the therapists I supervised had been performing/billing for magnet therapy on literally every patient she saw. Her logic was so flawed, but my ability to explain my concerns was also flawed.
