I believe they were neurologists. So how are we stealing techniques from PT's?

NYDC67,
I have to butt in and say that the PT's who have done a lot of the research in back rehabilitation (specifically work on core stabilization) in Brisbane, Australia have been asked by to write a chapter in Craig Liebenson's new book.

"A lot of Liebenson's work is based on the work of Lewit and Janda. They even contributed chapters to his book. Were they PT's? No."
Just to add before anybody gets it wrong, the PT's decided to write this chapter to stop comments such as these from occurring Alot of Liebenson's work is based on the research done by PT's on the role of muscles in pain syndromes and rehabilitation. Much of this PT work is based on the work of Janda and his ideas of muscle imbalance.

I think that the collaboration is great. I wish more PT's and DC's would work together. The problem is someone like Drew who says he is chiropractic friendly, but in reality is not. If he was, he would not have stated the post that started this whole thing. I think that every profession has something to offer.
I have Jemmett's book on stabilization. I think it is an excellent resource. Any thoughts?

NYDC,
I'm not chiropractic-friendly, though I've been called that as an insult by physical thearpist colleagues.
I consider myself chiropractic objective, sometimes defending chiropractic, sometimes attacking it --- I do the same, with even more impunity, upon my own profession.

I just heard this story from a patient of mine: A chiro is having his baby delivered at a local hospital. He goes in the delivery room and while the baby is still attached to the mother, he picks up the baby and starts doing manipulation on the just born baby. The hospital staff nurses are totally aghast by this chiro's behavior. The chiro claimed that it is in his child's interest that he did the manipulation. This story is true because my patient has no interest in lying about it. Is this chiro gone mad with the brainwashing or is this some kind of an accepted chiro theory? I have a few other Believe-it-or-not chiro stories!

I believe it. That is what we call a "straight" chiropractor. There are quacks like that in both professions.
Had similar type story. Had a patient of mine tell me her friend's PT was doing some type of vitamin eval on her. She had a box of vitamins in the room and was trying to figure out what was good and bad for her. Chiros do something similar called AK. Do PT's do that also?

At visit day at Parker they were claiming that adjusting newborns was a way of preventing SIDs. Their was also a testimonial from one of the students who brought his baby in and was supposedly cured of colic by an adjustment.

Coming out of PT school, one of my very first patients was a high school kid-football player with DX of Fractured femur. He was in a cast for a long time and my intent was gain his ROM in his knee and hip. I remember being very apprehensive in manually stretching his quads. After 10 minutes of PROM with passive overpressure I and the kid heard a loud snap sounded like breaking of the femur! I was already imagining talking to my malpractise lawyer. But to my amazement he actually stood on his feet and walked three steps. The kid was ecstatic with joy to actually walk. Hmmmm... maybe I should start a cult of spontaneous healers!!! Colic, asthama etc. falls in the same category as I just described. As Drew said-its all in the selling and brainwashing!
