Although not up on the APTA website yet, the APTA House of Delegates did vote to allow non-PT's to join. This is limited to people on PT education faculty who don't have PT degrees (such as Neuroscientists, Biomechanists, etc.).
Apparently, you need several PT colleagues to write references, which I would be happy to do. Call the APTA at 1-800-999-APTA for more information, ask to speak with membership services.

I was sitting here over the past couple days and realized something. It may not be that most PT's don't give a ****, but rather most American PT's don't give a ****. I looked at the depth and seriousness and challenging thinking going on at the NOIgroup discussion lists, and realized many of these people are practicing in foreign countries. I also realized that well over half the members on my own site are either in another country, or practice here but have a different country of training and origin. These people really get into the clinical stuff, especially Canadians, Australians and the British. Perhaps our APTA could look into these countries national associations and find out how these people are being trained to really care!

Notice how these countries have entry level Bachelor degrees. What does this say about the DPT debate.

To the best of my knowledge, the APTA will not accept non-physical therapists into their organisation. And why should they? I'm not going to speculate as to why that is. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But of course, we non-PT's are encouraged to pay non-APTA member conference fees and attend the APTA convention.
Cheers. Mark
