I talked with the patient today on the phone.
She saw the new ortho doc, and he aspirated her knee and put her in brace. He doesn't want her to continue with PT right now.
I asked if this helped (it was in the middle of last week), and she said she still has a lot of pain. She couldn't give me any idea of what his diagnosis was.

Thanks for everyone's help. Dr. Wagner, it seems you were on the right page.

The only thing I can add, or comment about is reference to "acute symptoms with no trauma" How long has this lady been a member of Curves? Not to speak badly regarding the business, but some centers have inadequately trained staff, maybe she started working out too aggressively, perhaps she is suffering from some sort of stress fracture? (I know she had x-rays, but just a thought).

Dr Wagner,
Should there be a sed rate test in this circumstance? I have a similar case, without the complex history. Multiple aspirations, which helped, and she had 3 sed rate tests, two were way high, at (to the best of my recollection) 80, then 65, and then a Westergren that was around 25 or 30, I forget. The first two tests were something other than westergren, from what I can decipher, having little to no knowledge of these tests, as I deal with them infrequently (never).

Could you briefly comment on these tests, and what a temporary, yet apparently resolving elevated sed rate can mean?

Thanks,

Steve Hill PT
