Good catch Jeff. I've never seen "lateral" winging either . . . but I'd bet it looks pretty cool.
Here's the next level question though . . . from a NDT/developmental perspective poor development of what MUSCLE, what causes poor development of control of the serratus anterior??
(HINT - The answer can be found in, among other sources, Lois Bly's 1999 book - An Illustrated Guide to Motor Skill Aquisition In the First Year of Life). The book is a qualitative analysis of the development of over 1000 babies.
Sometimes (but not usually significantly) this cause persists into adulthood.
