Fitnessdc..
I hadn't read this thread before, because I realised it was all about turf wars and differing philosophies between PTs and DCs, and couldn't be bothered with it. I think the whinge is about the -TIC and not the -TOR, and that point at least has been usefully made. If someone has a bad experience with a PT (and believe me, they do!!) it does turn that person against the PT profession. Same with DCs. Collectively for both professions, the advantages probably outweigh the disadvantages; so people go to both or either. Is it professional jealousy? not quite - it is the old memes of blatant greed, strange ways of looking at body systems, and so on. OK, so it's a different course, using similar or identical techniques. In the end, the aims are the same - to help people restore to optimal function. I do not agree with DC 'check-ups' but I don't agree with the medical doctors' zillion checkups one is supposed to have, either.
To me it is an unnecessary war,if any war is ever necessary. The public is paying or nonpaying, (in the case of free health care) and they just want to feel better. If they choose chiropractic over physical/physiotherapy, well, so be it. If DCs are hounding PTs out of business, then that is a problem of demographics or some such thing. I have not read (did I miss it?) that such an event is occurring. So I am still at a loss as to what the outrage is about, despite lengthy threads on various forums....
Cheers
