hey johnny, we have the same problem. years ago i thought that PT was in demand, thus i chose this course. I thought if i become a PT, i would experience financial security. but because of the fall of the economy, most of the PT graduates don't have jobs thus i'm afraid that i may be like them

Hi Johnny,

Just a few random thoughts.

I quit PT a couple of years ago when my husband was transferred to Texas and the only jobs were a 60-mile very nasty commute away. It was a challenge changing careers after 20 years of PT, but right now I wouldn't go back unless I were desperate.

We've moved back to an area with jobs recently, and I have seen ads for hospital and clinic-based PTs, so the job market does seem to be slowly rebounding.

After reading the posts on billing Medicare, the struggles for reimbursement, not to mention the number out there who want even more government involvement in healthcare despite the mess they've made of what they've done already... well, I think I'll just stay where I am right now working at home doing medical transcription.

Yes, I had my fun - especially in a good-sized teaching hospital where we saw everything from the intial burn intake and follow-through to the quads, attending arthritis rounds, etc. But the last few years it seemed that PT was being more and more infiltrated by the alt-med woo-woo unwinding types, especially in outpatient settings.

Anyway, I definitely am not encouraging my own kids to consider it as a career. Lots of luck.
