Hello,
I don't profess to be an expert here, but have treated transplant patients over the years, just not as a specialty. I always remember that the new heart is denervated, and must rely on circulating catecholines to increase the heart rate due to exercise, and also decrease it. Therefore, there is a slower response and recovery. The natural heart, with exercise, suffers a decrease in parasympathetic activity and increased sympathetic activity for increasing heart rate.
