mblue -> Inservice topic needed for Neuro Internship??? (December 2, 2001 6:46:00 PM)

Hi - I'm on my 2nd internship, primarily neuro, in an acute rehab setting. I need to do an inservice or an administration project in the next couple weeks, and I'm at a loss for ideas currently. Does anyone have any ideas for me of what they have done or what might be an interesting topic for an inservice or administration project??

I have one idea of researching transverse myelitis, a rare disorder that one of my patients has currently and talking about it. Would that be something useful?? Any idease would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much!! I look forward to the ideas.

mblue,

Hmmm...you need to do a project...I think you should focus on an idea that comes from you...Transverse Myelitis sounds a little boring...I'm a little suprised that you dont have more ideas of your own just gushing forward at this point in your training...you should just be bursting with creativity, shouldnt you? Hmmm...well...I actually would focus on a topic a bit more controversial and unconventional than the one you mentioned....but that's just me. Aren't there any controversial treatment methods in acture neurorehabilitation? Think about it. What about forced-use? As far as I know only one study has been used in the acute setting...the notion of restricting use of the "good" arm and forcing use of the impaired extremity is probably uncomfortable for many therapists...what about restricting use of the leg with an airsplint to encourage use of the impaired leg during rolling and in bed? I would do a research project on something like that, but thats me.
