soon2bpt -> Single system research idea of interest anyone? (July 31, 2000 1:18:00 PM)

Are there any ideas of a treatment that PT's
frequently use that you would like to see research done on to observe the objective and functional beneifits, or if any really exisit?

I am responsible to perform a single system design study on my out-patient orthopedic affiliation, which sees mostly s/p surgical patients. I have had ideas of applying ultrasound to a maintained passive stretch vs. ultrasound and PROM done seperately. Possibly beneficial to s/p rotator cuff repair or adhesive capsulitis.

Another idea is of new or rarely seen theraputic ideas such as the rarely used spray and stretch, medco, or ultrasound for durg delivery. I have tried to research and look for information out there but this has only lead me to deadends and difficulties getting full-text online.

Any ideas and creative ways to perform this single system design?

While I understand the desire to do never before performed research-- consider replicating or improving research already performed. There is a need to back much of PT practice with more than one study. Plus, much of the background work is already done.

Speaking for myself, I would not be the least bit interested in reading about rarely used techniques or obscure treatment.

Some ideas-- heat before stretch vs no heat (short and long term ROM)
therapist applied mobs/stretch vs therapist directed patient applied mobs/stretch
light resistance/high rep exercise vs joint mobs

good luck
