Hi,
I have a 15 month old son with polymicrogyria affecting his motor skills and balance. He primarily has problems with balance (sitting and standing) and high tone in his upper arms, shoulders and hands. He gets PT once a week. What are some basic strenthening, stretching exercises we can do to help with these areas? We have a therapy ball.

She comes once a week and primarily does weight bearing activities with his legs and arms and stretching of his arms and legs. She works with his balance and posture with him in a sitting position. He has started to stand with assistance but locks his knees. We have air "splints" that sort of look like blood pressure cuffs that we put on his arms for about 10 minutes a day. Movement in his arms and hands has gotten better, but he still pulls his arms into his body when he is on his back and doesn't use the left hand as much- clenches the fist sometimes. I'm sorry I can't tell you more, but I don't stay home to observe the therapist. My husband is the stay at home person who cares for him. Any advice you have so we can help him every day (when she's not there) to help him learn balance and increase his strength, mobility in his arms/hands especially is appreciated.

I suggest that asking your treating physical therapist would be the best place to start. Is this something that's occured?
