Andrew M. Ball, MS, PT -> The Peabody II (November 6, 2000 7:27:00 AM)

More and more clinicians are switching to the Peabody II. I've heard lots of pro's and con's about the test from fellow clinicians and faculty alike.

Some feel that the Peabody II does not identify as many kids as the old Peabody, others don't like the fact it no longer produces a gross motor age equivalent. Some like the handouts that are derived from testing, others hate them.

It's clear that some PT's have some very valid complaints about the Peabody II, and a few clearly need a refresher in statistics. Nevertheless, eveyone seems to have an opinion. What is your opinion and why?

I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet, but I browsed through it briefly...I think it should be categorized by skill level, so you don't have to switch back and forth between having the child stand on one foot, do a sit up, jump up, hop on one foot 5 feet, go up stairs, do a push up, jump off a chair, walk heel toe 10 feet.. (you get my point I know they did categorize with object manipulation as a seperate section, which is a nice attempt at making it more efficient to conduct, .. I know with the older one, I reorganized the material, and put all "like" skills together, to make testing go smoother, rather than flipping from age level....

At first I thought the hand outs were neat... but they didn't give many creative or new ideas.... nothing outrageously different than what I already do in therapy to achieve certain skills... but I guess it is a nice feature for parent ed. etc.
