Relative to the Clinical Prediction Rule and the evidenced suggestive of the lack of reliability of segmental motion palpation, can anyone give any recommendations on a good manual therapy course series/certification? I'm looking for courses that use an evidence based approach, but may be eclectic in that they employ soft tissue techniques, principles of neurodynamics, as well as manipulation.

Thanks for any replies.

Eric

Eric,

This should fit the bill:

I suggest you look into Evidence in Motion and their residency program. Cheers.

I echo the previous two posters.  EIM is run by those putting out all the EB literature on MT.  I've taken the C-spine course by Josh Cleland and really enjoyed it.  I was able to take what I learned manually and evidence related, change my way of practice and begin with all of that on Monday morning.

In terms of certification, they also have a distance learning orthopaedic residency.  At the end you should be well prepared for sitting for the OCS and can continue on with a manual therapy fellowship if so desired.

I agree with the EIM courses.  I might also recommend the IAOM spine series.  Very balanced and unbiased stuff.  They also have a doctoral program through Texas Tech University that is well-respected.  Good luck.

Hope to take EIM courses when they come back east. They offer good courses.

jma,
I see that you are from NY and thought you might be interested in knowing that EIM is starting a ortho residency program in Syracuse. The individuals running it are shooting for a start date this summer or Jan. '09. Check out the EIM website for more information

Sounds interesting. Thanks for the info.

Childs will do evidence based manual courses.  You may find he has helped evolve the clinical predictions rules.  I question how much weight the clinical prediction rules have given to other manual therapy techniques such as mobilization with movement, strain counterstrain, and myofacial since nothing was stated about any of these in the clinical commentary, however, we all see them work.

I am interested in this program and submitted information to EIM.  Do you have any idea how many people are interested?  I think EIM says we need 10 people.
