JSPT -> Cubital tunnel syndrome (November 2, 2005 6:25:00 AM)

A fellow clinician came to me with this case, and the only thing I could come up with is neural glides:

50 y/o female had R RC repair 1 year ago and a R carpal tunnel release a few weeks ago. The surgeon transferred some fat from the thenar area to the incision over the wrist to reduce scarring.

New PT order is for R cubital tunnel syndrome. Patient has R elbow pain as well as R 4th and 5th digit numbness. She can't perform heavy gripping due to the recent CT release.

Beyond the nerve glides, any ideas? My co-worker is certified in strain/counterstrain, and is going to try some work on the thoracics as well.

JS,
I would be interested in seeing her EMG report. Your neural glides would be a good intervention. I might add some grade I and II joint mobilizations to the elbow. I would also take a good look at her lower c-spine and would possibly try some things around C6 and 7 and see what happens with her distal symptoms. I like the idea of thoracic work.

Good luck.
