hi, does anyone know how to easily diferentiate between lat. epiciondylitis and radial tunnel?  also does any one have any treatment ideas for radial tunnel,  i think i have a patient with it now (his pain is just distal to the lat epi) and at times has shooting sensations.
thank you for your help

There was a good article in JOSPT back in the 90's about this, written by a local PT named Lutz.  I have found that over the years, the typical signs and symptoms don't always fit the nice and easy tests.  Third finger extension is not supposed to hurt with the condition, but I have found it often does.  Resisted supination may or may not cause pain.  For me, the definitive test is neural tension testing for the radial nerve, and compare to other side. Also, a very definitive neuro and ortho screen for the neck, as the pain may be simply radicular, not due to entrapment or hypomobility issues.

I don't believe any protocols exist for this, but you can try some radial nerve mobs (from Butler); I would also check the neck and provide some education to the patient on some of the offending postures he or she may be doing over time.
