im a physical therapy student here in the philippines.years ago, i was informed that Physical therapists are in demand in the states.that's why i chose this course.but shortly after my first year in college, i learned that p.t.'s are not in demand anymore.because of this, some of my classmates shifted to other courses, but i don't want to follow their footsteps because ive already been through a lot in this course and since i want to pursue medicine, i decided to stay.but because of the sudden downfall of the economy, i don;t know if i would still pursue medicine, thus my whole future depends on my success as a P.T.but if P.T is not in demand anymore, then i'm also not sure if i would find success in my course.now i need some advice if i would still continue my PT course or follow my classmates' steps.

Hello, From what I have been reading and hearing about from sources concerning PT, there is a demand for PT's here in the states. There seems to be a slight increase in the number of job offerings. How long this will last is not known at this time. I am close to entering the job market myself and I know that my services will be needed soon.

I have been in the US as a PT for 8 yeara and is from the Phils. I am currently working at an out-patient clinic specializing in orthopaedics and pursuing my master's in PT. The truth is, the market for PT's in general is improving, but there is still a surplus of PT's right now. The market is improving for those that are already here and for graduating students. I don't feel that space is being allocated for FEPT's. Students and even professionals here sometimes feel that FEPT's are taking their jobs from them. I feel this is unfair since when I came here 8 years ago, there were a lot of openings for PT's and these facilities and patients needed us. Those that came at that time did not take jobs from anybody because the jobs were there. Sad to say, times have changed. The jobs are no longer here - but FEPT's is not the only factor. If I had known I would eventually feel unwelcome here, professionally, then I wouldn't have come in the first place. I could have gone to MED school over there, etc. But now, I can't turn back - I've established a life here. And so, I am pursuing my Master's to keep up and just be the best PT I can be - so people will not judge me as a FEPT but as a valuable addition to the PT field. My advise to you: do not plan your PT career around the US market. Stay in the field because you really like and believe in it. Then, you can survive in it no matter where you are.
